Fear of re-injury was the most common reasons athletes didn’t return to play after surgery
40%
only 40% of athletes returned to pre-injury competitive levels of sport after an ACL reconstruction
65% +
athletes who did not return to sport after surgery attributed it to a psychological reason
Returning to sport after an injury is a crucial phase in an athlete’s career. Physical readiness is just one component. In fact, psychological readiness is the STRONGEST PREDICTOR of an athlete’s ability to return to pre-injury performance levels.
Mental Skills Training helps you…
-
Make rehab your new sport! You will learn to shifting your focus from limitations to possibilities, develop optimism, and committed (even excited!) to your rehab process, despite the inevitable up’s and down’s.
-
You will learn techniques that help calm your mind and body (especially under pressure). Through practice (and understanding how your brain works), you can rewrite those intrusive thoughts and images about getting re-injured. Can even learn how your anxiety can HELP your performance.
-
We will create a process that helps develop and stabilize your sense of confidence. Through techniques like goal setting, self-talk and mental rehearsal, we rewrite your inner narrative (on a neural level) so you feel prepared to play.
-
Rehab is hard. You will have a system that helps you stick to your rehab plan (even when you don’t feel like it).

I am happy to have a free 15 minute discovery call with you to get to know each other and answer any questions you may have. However, individual sessions are not available for this program as the development of the skills to return to play with confidence and consistency take time. I promise that the juice is worth the squeeze (...ie its worth the effort you put in)

Absolutely!! This program can help athletes at any stage of their recovery process (post operation, pre-clearance, mid-process and once they are immersed in sport again). The beauty of this course, is I adapt it to meet you where you are at.
-
Absolutely! Communication is key and it's great to have everyone on the same page. We can discuss this process in the first session together.

It is becoming very well known about the importance of the mind-body connection. When our bodies experience a change (ie and injury), our mental-emotional state experiences a similar change (Green, 1992). This indicates that we cannot recover fully by just focusing on the physical aspects of injury. Not to mention that 72% of collegiate athletes who committed to mental skills training after an injury stated they recovered faster than expected. I have worked with many athletes using this framework and you can read their reviews further up on this page.
Not to mention, I have done this program each time i've injured myself and I continue to tweak it based on new research and client feedback. -
If you still have a session or two left after you’ve returned to play and are feeling confident, we can dedicate those sessions to performance enhancement skills. However, based on my personal and professional experience, it usually takes 4-5 sessions for athletes to really stabilize their confidence after an injury.
